How to pick the Right House for You!

When choosing a house to buy you have to think about more than just how the house looks. It is about finding a house that is right for you and your family. There are several things you need to keep in mind when shopping for Shreveport Real Estate. Some of the things to keep in mind would be size of the house, the location of the house, the neighborhood it is in, school district, is it in your price range, and you need to know the difference between what you need versus what you want. This article has some helpful key tip for first time home buyers.

The size of the house you buy is a major thing you have to take into consideration. You want to make sure the house is big enough to suit you now but also big enough to suit you in the future if your family should grow. Make sure all the rooms are big enough to fit your needs from bedrooms, kitchen, living, bathrooms, etc. For example, if you are someone who enjoys cooking and entertaining then a pretty big kitchen and living room might be a better fit for you. Not only is the size of your house important but the land your house sits on is important as well. You might need a bigger yard that is fenced in if you have kids or pets (or plan to have kids or pets in your future). On the other hand though, you might want a smaller yard if you are the kind of person that does not like to do a lot of yard work. There are many big homes in the Shreveport Real Estate market.

Location, Neighborhood, and Schools

Choosing the right neighborhood is just as important as choosing the right house. If you have a family or plan to have a family making sure the house is in a good school district is important as well. Do your research on the school in the Shreveport Real Estate district. You may also want to drive through the neighborhood at different times of day and night. Look to see if there are people outside and if there are kids playing. Does it seem safe enough to let your kids walk around the block or for you to even walk around the block? You might be thinking you do not have to worry about this now because you do not have kids but someday you might and these are things you need to consider now to plan accordingly for your future. The location of your house is something to keep in mind. How important is it to you to be close to the mall, grocery store, your favorite coffee shop you visit every morning, your work, or other things in town you visit on a daily or weekly basis? Think about how far are you willing to travel to get to these places.

Before you can buy a house you have to lay out all your monthly expenses to see what you can afford. You might think you found the perfect house but if it is out of your market range you might want to rethink it. It is usually best that after you set your price range you only look at houses in that market. This can keep you from buying a house you really can’t afford that might put you in a financial bind later. You do not want to overdo it with your monthly mortgage payment and then find yourself later not being able to pay it due to a job loss, unexpected medical emergency, a death, or a new expense such as a car or child. Another thing you have to do is make sure you completely understand the terms of your mortgage. Know if it is a fixed rate or a variable rate because a variable rate means your payments can go up in the future.

What you need! vs. What you want!

We all have our idea dream house but realistically you may not be able to afford your dream home right now. You have to make a list of things you need your house to have and a list of things you would just like for your house to have. For example, you might need a house with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, pretty good size living room, and a fenced in yard. Things you might want though are a Jacuzzi tub in the main bath, granite counter tops, an entertainment/play room, or a pool. These are all things you can live without for now if need be. Remember too that all these things can possibly be added to your house later on. It is always nice to be able to get as much as you can off your want list but do not go over your budget just for something you want and do not need.

A lot comes with buying a house. It takes a lot of planning and time to find the right house for you and your family. Take your time looking at many houses. Don’t make any real quick impulsive decisions, if you like a house talk it out with someone, list the pros and cons of a house, and then make your decision. I’m not saying wait a week because a house can sell quickly sometimes but think about it for a few hours or a day. Also remember just because you put a bid on a house does not mean it will be yours. Be open-minded and be patient. You will find the right house for you in the end! In this market Shreveport Real Estate is a great investment in your future.
